MU Health Care South Providence Psychiatry
MU Health Care offers esketamine nasal spray at its South Providence Psychiatry clinic in Columbia. The interventional psychiatry team was the first in mid Missouri to provide this treatment after it was approved in 2019.
Candidates need at least two failed attempts with different antidepressants, at adequate doses, during a depressive episode. Every person referred gets a full evaluation first.
Patients stay two hours after each dose so staff can watch for side effects, and cannot drive themselves home. Treatment often starts twice a week for a couple of months, then spaces out. The clinic also offers TMS, ECT, deep brain stimulation, and vagus nerve stimulation.
